A Small Road Crossing That Says a Lot About Delivery Life in Bengaluru

Yesterday evening, while crossing the road near Cunningham Road in Bengaluru, I noticed something that made me stop and think.

A delivery partner from BigBasket stepped off the pavement and crossed the road without even looking left or right. Traffic was fast, bikes were cutting through gaps, cars were honking, and the usual evening rush was in full swing. But he walked straight across as if there was no time to lose.

At first, it looked careless. Then it started to look like something else.

Most of us, when crossing the road, pause. We check both sides. We wait for a safe gap. We take a moment because we can afford to take a moment.

For delivery partners, every minute is counted, tracked, and judged. Orders have timers. Customers expect speed. Apps show delays. Ratings depend on minutes. Waiting for traffic to slow down may mean being late for the next delivery.

It made me realise how different the same street feels depending on who you are.

For a pedestrian, the road is something to cross safely.

For a delivery partner, the road is something to cross quickly.

We talk a lot about convenience, ten-minute delivery, instant groceries, and fast service. What we do not always see is the pressure behind that speed. The rush is not just in the app. It is on the road, in the heat, in the traffic, in the small risks taken every day.

This was just a simple road crossing.

But it said a lot about the life behind every delivery notification.

Sometimes the fastest service comes at the cost of someone else’s breathless hurry.

And next time I see a delivery partner riding past in traffic, I think I will complain a little less about being two minutes late.
