How to Restore a cPanel Backup

Note: Before you start with the restoration, make sure you have all the necessary details such as:

  • Database connection details
  • Configuration details, etc.

In case of any doubts, please take assistance from your web developer. Restoration depends on the design of your website, and your developer is the right person to assist you. Here is a general help article that could guide you and your developer.

I was doing my research for my website, so I thought let me share this information with you.

Upload the Backup

  • Log in to cPanel
  • Go to File Manager (under Advanced > Files)
  • Create a Folder inside the file manager with the name backup
  • Upload the backup inside the folder


Note: If the backup size id more than 500MB upload it via FTP

  • Once the upload is complete extract the files
  • Website files will be presented in public_html
. Move all website files into public_html

Restoring the Mails

  • Log in to cPanel (under Advanced >> Files)
  • Go to File Manager
  •  Move the Mail and Etc folder from backup file to /home/user directory

  •  This automatically restores the emails and email IDs

Create MySQL database

  • Log in to cPanel (under Advanced » Database)
  • Go to MySQL database in cPanel
  •  Create a new database
  • Create a new user
  • Add the user to the database (Check the box for all privileges)

Upload MySQL database

  • Go to phpMyAdmin
  • You will see the created database
  • Click on the database, you will find an import option
  • Import the database file

Note: If the database backup size is more than 50mb upload using MySQL client.
